Mold Flow Simulation Software Comparison

Mold flow simulation software has become an essential tool for injection mold design. The three major platforms each have strengths for different applications and budgets.

Autodesk Moldflow

The market leader with the widest material database (over 10,000 grades). Offers three tiers: Moldflow Adviser (simplified, design-focused), Moldflow Insight (full 3D simulation), and Moldflow Synergy (bundle). Strengths: best-in-class warpage prediction, extensive material database, widely recognized by clients. Limitations: high cost ($15,000-50,000/year), steep learning curve for full 3D simulation.

Moldex3D

True 3D simulation using solid-element meshing. Strengths: better simulation of thick parts and complex geometries, excellent cooling analysis with conformal cooling support, good for micro-molding simulation. Limitations: smaller material database than Moldflow, less widespread industry recognition in North America.

SIGMASOFT

Uses proprietary Virtual Molding technology with automatic mesh generation. Strengths: easiest setup of the three, automatic optimization, excellent for mold thermal analysis. Limitations: higher cost (typically $30,000-60,000/year), smaller user community.
