Different mold types and working conditions require specific steel grades.
Cr12MoV (D2): classic high wear resistance. SKD11: Japanese equivalent, very widely used. DC53: better toughness.
H13 (4Cr5MoSiV1): most common hot work steel for die casting and forging. Working temp 600-700C. 8407: upgraded H13.
718H (P20+Ni): most common pre-hardened. NAK80: aging steel for mirror finish. S136 (420SS): corrosion resistant.
