Forging in China — Complete Sourcing Guide for Global Buyers

Forging is one of the oldest and most reliable metal forming processes. In China, the forging industry has grown into a multibillion dollar sector serving automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, mining, and heavy machinery industries worldwide.

What is Forging?

Forging shapes metal using localized compressive forces. Unlike casting or machining, forging realigns the grain structure of the metal to follow the part's shape, resulting in superior strength and fatigue resistance.

Key Advantage: Forged parts are 15-25% stronger than cast or machined equivalents of the same material, making them essential for safety-critical applications like crankshafts, connecting rods, and pressure vessel fittings.

Types of Forging Available in China

1. Open-Die Forging

Metal is deformed between flat or shaped dies that do not fully enclose the workpiece.

2. Closed-Die Forging

Metal is pressed into a die cavity forming the final shape. Flash created at the parting line is trimmed off.

3. Seamless Ring Rolling

A punched preform is rolled into a seamless ring. Grain structure follows the circumference for exceptional strength.
