A Guide to Electronics Manufacturing in Hefei, China

Last updated: 13 June 2026

Hefei Electronics Industry Overview

Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province, has rapidly transformed from a traditional heavy industrial base into one of China's most dynamic electronics and advanced manufacturing hubs. The city hosts the world's largest flat panel display manufacturing cluster anchored by BOE Technology Group, along with growing semiconductor, EV battery, and smart home appliance sectors. Hefei's electronics sector exceeds 700 billion RMB annually.

BOE Technology Group's Hefei campus in the Xinzhan Industrial Park is the crown jewel of the city's panel display industry. BOE has invested over 100 billion RMB in Hefei across multiple generations of TFT-LCD and AMOLED production lines, including the world's first Gen 10.5 TFT-LCD production line (producing 65-inch and larger panels). This has attracted dozens of suppliers of display components including backlight units, polarizers, and driver ICs.

Hefei's electronics ecosystem extends beyond display manufacturing. The city hosts JAC Motors' EV division, producing electric vehicles under the JAC brand and through its partnership with Volkswagen (VW Anhui). The Hefei EV cluster includes battery manufacturing by CATL, battery pack assembly, and electric drive unit production. This confluence of display and EV production has attracted significant semiconductor investment.

The emerging semiconductor cluster includes Nexperia's advanced packaging and testing facility, producing small-signal MOSFETs and logic devices. Hefei's semiconductor ambitions include developing the Hefei Integrated Circuit Industrial Park to attract IC design companies, wafer fab equipment suppliers, and advanced packaging service providers.

Smart home appliance manufacturing remains important in Hefei's electronics sector. The city is the appliance manufacturing base for multiple brands including Whirlpool (through its joint venture with Hefei Sanyo) and Royalstar. Hefei produces washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, and smart home devices. Appliance manufacturing expertise combined with display panel capabilities creates opportunities for smart home products with advanced displays.

For technology companies evaluating manufacturing in China, Hefei offers significant cost advantages over coastal cities combined with rapidly improving infrastructure. The Hefei government provides aggressive R&D subsidies, tax incentives, and industrial land policies for electronics and semiconductor investments. The high-speed rail connection to Shanghai and other YRD cities provides excellent connectivity.
