Foam molding encompasses several processes for creating lightweight, cushioning, and insulating products. Chinese factories offer EPS, EPP, and polyurethane foam molding with varying capabilities and quality levels.
EPS is the most common foam material for packaging, insulation, and disposable products. The process: pre-expansion of beads, aging, then steam molding in aluminum molds. Chinese EPS molders use automated pre-expanders and molding machines. Applications: protective packaging for electronics and appliances, building insulation, single-use coolers.
EPP is a more durable, reusable foam used in automotive bumpers, packaging for delicate equipment, and children's products. EPP has better energy absorption, higher temperature resistance, and can be recycled. Chinese EPP capabilities have grown rapidly with the automotive industry. Key quality metric: bead fusion consistency.
Flexible and rigid PUR foam are used for furniture cushioning, automotive seating, insulation panels, and gaskets. Chinese PUR foamers use pour-in-place and spray-up methods. Closed-cell rigid foam is used for refrigeration and insulation panels.
